How Much Do You Know About Liposuction?
- Posted on: Feb 15 2018
Liposuction is one of the most common techniques that are used for reducing fat on the face and body. In 2016, more than 235,000 liposuction procedures were performed in the United States, yet the technique still has some mystery. Here are some of our favorite interesting facts about liposuction.
The Roaring Twenties
A French ballet dancer was the first person to have liposuction, and she chose the procedure with the hopes of improving the shape of her calves and knees. Today, the legs are a popular treatment area for liposuction, and the results far exceed those that could be achieved when it was first used on a patient.
Fido Can Have Liposuction
Celebrities are often noted for starting trends, and thanks to their efforts, Fido and Fifi can now have liposuction. The technique has been adapted for dogs and cats whose owners want their beloved furry friends to look as shapely as they do.
There are Limits
Advances in liposuction techniques have made it amongst the safest cosmetic procedures available, but it does have some limits. The recommended maximum amount of fat that should be removed is five liters, which is why Dr. Carpin recommends that you be near your ideal weight before having the procedure. Although higher amounts can be removed, the risk may not be worth the reward. Diet and exercise are always the best options if you are looking to shed the extra pounds.
You are Never Too Old
The oldest patient on record who has had liposuction is an 87-year-old woman. Being a good candidate for the procedure is less dependent on age and more dependent on your general health and expectations.
For Men Everywhere Except Egypt
More men are discovering the benefits of cosmetic procedures, and liposuction is the technique of choice for reducing fat on the chest, abdomen, love handles, chin and neck. Although the statistics do vary, men in almost every country enjoy the benefits of liposuction, except for Egypt. Recent numbers indicate that zero men in Egypt have chosen liposuction as part of their aesthetic treatment plans.
