Procedure Details
Dr. Carpin using the technique pioneered by Dr. Roger Khouri of the Miami Breast Center, which uses micro fat transfer to ensure the maximal survival of the fat and beautiful long-lasting results. The process for fat transfer begins a few weeks before surgery. Patients are first screened for breast cancer with an MRI. Next, patients will be required to wear an expanding device, called the BRAVA, for several weeks during the night. The BRAVA is a bra-like device that gently suctions the breast, providing space for the newly transferred fat by expanding the breast tissue. Once the breast is expanded, the patient is then ready for surgery. Surgery is performed in the operating room under heavy sedation or general anesthesia. Using tiny incisions, fat is then collected from the abdomen, hips, or thighs, using small cannulas and prepared for fat transfer. The fat is gently cleansed and then carefully transferred to the breasts as micro-fat grafts, without incisions, only small punctures. The patient is placed in garments after surgery and can return home after surgery.
Recovery
After surgery, patients will experience bruising, swelling, and pain. Patients can typically return to work in 7 to 14 days. Garments are worn for 4 to 6 weeks. Patients can return to heavy exercise at 4 to 6 weeks.

Risks
Fat transfer risks include cysts, microcalcifications that may obscure mammographic findings, and fat transfer loss. Additional risks of liposuction will be discussed during your consultation with Dr. Carpin.

Patients can achieve one half to one cup size increase with each session. Patients may require an additional surgery for more volume.
A key factor of breast fat transfer success is dependent on the amount of expansion you achieve with the BRAVO device. In general, the final augmentation result is about 2/3 of your maximal BRAVA expansion. Thus, to double your current breast size, you would need to expand it with BRAVA 3 times its original size.
